A little more than 24 hours from now Obama will speak live in Berlin - towards the Brandenburg Gate, though not in front of it. Below you'll find a view from Germany - what to expect, what we already know and what's still speculation.
With only three and a half month left before election day, Nevada bloggers have joined forces and today announce the creation of the "Nevada Bloggers for Jill Derby and Dina Titus" ActBlue fundraising page.
With 35 Senate seats being contested this year (33 plus 2 special elections), Democrats have only 4 female candidates: Jeanne Shaheen (NH), Kay Hagan (NC), Vivian Figures (AL) and incumbent Sen. Mary Landrieu (LA). That's a shamefully low number. The Republicans only have 2 incumbents, Elizabeth Dole (NC) and Susan Collins (ME), and one sole challenger, Christine O'Donnell (DE).
Overall, this is not a great year for women in the U.S. Senate. The overall outcome will be somewhere between minus 2 and plus 4 female Senators. The most likely outcome is somewhere between minus 1 and plus 1.
So, let's look ahead to 2010. Specifically, to which Democratic female politicians might or should run for the U.S. Senate in 2010.
Say it actually happens - Obama beats McCain in November. In that case Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich will have to choose a successor for Barack Obama's Senate seat.
Today, Robert Novak rumors that Nancy Pelosi would like Rahm Emanuel, House Democratic caucus chair, to replace Obama. Now, this may be true or not. With the self styled Prince of Darkness you never know.
No matter what Novak "reports" or Pelosi supposedly wants, here's the more important question:
Who would you like to see replace Obama in the Senate?
In 2003 hardly anyone outside of Illinois knew a state senator named Barack Obama.
Five years later he is the nominee for President of the Democratic Party.
What this shows is that there clearly is talent all over the United States (while I'm not saying there is an Obama in every state). The question simply is if they can make it out of the political wilderness into the limelight.
This has been a very interesting month and a half. After the end of the Obama Veepstakes poll (which was won by Bill Richardson) I started to think about an Obama cabinet. In the process of looking beyond the known figures I found a lot of impressive persons, some of whom made it into my personal Obama cabinet.
I also put together five different cabinets (combined of the top three to top five of the individual cabinet post polls and a few wildcards) and you had a chance to rate them on a scale from 1 (hate it) to 10 (love it).
Within the past month I put forth 19 polls with 15 candidates each to figure out who you guys want in an Obama cabinet. With voting in all rounds now over I compiled five different cabinets and they were all up for a vote this week.
Who got included in the final cabinets: the top three in each poll automatically made it into these final cabinet polls, in some cases also the 4th and 5th. However, to make sure that the cabinets are as diverse as possible I gave some candidates who didn't have enough votes a wildcard.
Each day this week you can rate a cabinet. Today, you can rate a possible Obama/Webb cabinet on a scale from 1 (hate it) to 10 (love it). At the end I will post the results and the cabinet with the highest average wins.

The Obama Cabinet Poll series is almost over. Next week I will put together 5 different cabinets out of your 3 top choices in each round and either the 4th and/or 5th in each round or a wildcard where necessary to ensure diversity. You are then able to rate each cabinet on a scale from 1 to 10. The cabinet with the best average will then be the winner of this series.
Today is the last day you can vote in all of these polls and in several of them your vote can still make a difference.
Below the fold you will also find my personal choices for an Obama cabinet. With one caveat though: In almost all rounds I had several candidates I liked. My Obama cabinet could have looked entirely different as well.
Everyone's talking about Obama's running mate. But who would you like to see in an Obama cabinet?
Today you can vote on the last cabinet position I'm polling - the next U.S. Trade Representative. Also, you can still vote in all previous rounds.
Tomorrow, I'll put together a diary with my personal cabinet choices. And from Monday to Friday I will put up five different cabinets for a vote for you to decide which one you like best. These cabinets will be comprised of the top three in each round plus wildcards to ensure diversity.
